2027 Election: Wike Says Tinubu’s Victory Is Already Settled, Dismisses Opposition Chances.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the chances of the opposition defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, declaring that the contest is already settled in favour of the President.
Wike made the remarks on Tuesday in Abuja while addressing journalists at a press conference, where he advised opposition parties to focus on rebuilding their structures rather than expecting to defeat Tinubu at the polls.
According to the minister, the opposition should begin preparing for the period after the 2027 election, insisting that its current political strength was insufficient to challenge the President.
“Try, they know that the only thing they can do now is to start crying, but if it’s to win the election, no, they can’t win,” Wike said.
“Maybe after now they can start planning and putting their house in order, but if it’s this 2027 election against Tinubu, no, forget it, it’s over.”
Wike also cited recent electoral performances to question the ability of opposition parties to translate their state-level results into a successful national campaign.
“While the winning man will be scoring over 500,000 votes, the second person scored over 400,000; the third person will be scoring 17,000? A party of the former governor? Then when it gets to the national election, that is where the party will win?” he asked.
The FCT minister further described the opposition as “depleted,” claiming that he was among those responsible for weakening its political strength.
“How you choose leaders is what attempts or steps are you making to solve problems, so don’t be talking about opposition; say depleted opposition, which I’m one of those that depleted them,” Wike stated.
His comments come amid growing political realignments and heightened preparations by political parties and aspirants ahead of the 2027 general election.
