Wike Reaffirms December 2026 Completion Target For Major Abuja Road Projects.
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to completing major ongoing road projects in Abuja by December 2026, with some expected to be delivered in early January 2027.
Wike made the disclosure on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, during an inspection of the Inner Southern Expressway, also known as Goodluck Jonathan Way, and the Southern Parkway service carriageways in the Gaduwa District of Abuja.
The minister said the completion of the projects would improve road connectivity, reduce traffic congestion and contribute to the ongoing physical transformation of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, the Inner Southern Expressway, which was originally awarded in 2014, includes two major interchanges and more than five kilometres of road infrastructure currently receiving government intervention.
Wike said the release of funds by the Federal Government had accelerated construction work, enabling the contractors to sustain the pace of development.
He commended China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC), the principal contractor, for working day and night to meet the completion targets.
The minister also noted that Nigerian youths, particularly those from surrounding communities, had been engaged in various aspects of the construction activities.
Wike expressed optimism that once completed, the roads, interchanges and service carriageways would significantly improve movement between major districts in Abuja and further enhance the city’s road network.
He maintained that the projects remained a priority of the FCT Administration and would be delivered within the stated timelines.
