REJOINDER: Transformers Hum, Excuses Fizzle: Aguocha’s Dribble Cannot Hide a Dark Record – A Response to Godwin Asiegbu’s “Beyond the Transformer Propaganda and Audio Leadership” – By Mandate 27 Group
When a representative has no scoreboard to show, he changes the game. That is the story of Mr. Asiegbu’s latest piece, written in defence of Hon. Obi Aguocha, the Political Maradona of Ikwuano/Umuahia, who has spent three years dribbling past the questions his constituents keep asking.
Transformers Are “Bare Minimum”? Then Where Is Yours?
Mr. Asiegbu dismisses transformers as bare-minimum infrastructure. Fine. Then the incumbent’s team should have no trouble naming the bare minimum they delivered. Communities that now have light will not be talked out of what they see with their own eyes. A man who sneers at a transformer must be able to point to something bigger he has built. Where is it?
Financial Autonomy Is Not “Largesse”
The claim that legislative financial autonomy was a vault for insiders is a cheap shot at a principle the Constitution itself protects. An Assembly that must beg the executive for its funds cannot check the executive. That is how oversight dies. If Mr. Asiegbu has evidence that any naira was misapplied, let him name the sum, the year and the institution that flagged it. Insinuation is not evidence, and it is certainly not an argument.
The Stollen 100 Billion: Show the Receipt
The piece throws around “the stollen 100 billion belonging to Abians” as if repetition were proof. Which audit, court filing or agency report supports it? Serious accountability names its sources. Slogans do not. Until then, it is noise dressed up as outrage.
The Orji Record: A Scoreboard You Can Check
Since Mr. Asiegbu wants to talk about legacy, let us talk about legacy.
As Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji secured financial autonomy for the legislature, the very independence that lets a House stand as a true arm of government and not an errand boy of the executive.
On the ground, he delivered seven mini stadiums of 1,000 capacity each, real structures for real young people to train, play and dream. Electrification has now reached 32 communities, and those communities did not need a press release to know when the lights came on.
Numerous boreholes have been drilled, so that families who once trekked for water now have it close to home. Scholarships have kept the children of ordinary families in school. Empowerment programmes have put tools, capital and skills in the hands of people, and many youths and elders have been lifted out of poverty. These are lives changed, not photo-ops.
Now set that beside the incumbent’s record. Seven stadiums on one side. A single 5-a-side pitch on the other. Thirty-two communities lit up on one side. Transformers dismissed as “bare minimum” on the other.
The Challenge: Match It If You Can
So here is an open challenge to Hon. Aguocha and his media team. Match it.
– Name seven projects of comparable scale that you have delivered.
– Name the communities you have electrified, with the dates and the contract details.
– Name the boreholes you have drilled and where they stand.
– Name the students on your scholarships and the beneficiaries of your empowerment programmes.
– Name the bills you sponsored and the stage each one reached.
– Publish your constituency project list with the amounts attached.
We already know what will happen. He will go silent, then dodge, then deflect to another topic and send his media team to shout about something else. He has done it before and he will chicken out again. But the people are watching, and silence is also an answer.
Billions Passed Through His Hands. Where Is the Evidence?
For nearly four years, Hon. Aguocha has drawn salaries, allowances and constituency funding from the public purse, sums that run into billions of naira when tallied. And what does Ikwuano/Umuahia have to show for it? Which road, which school, which clinic, which skills programme, which water project carries his name?
Let him publish the full breakdown of every kobo that has passed through his office, and the projects each one funded. A man who has never turned down a coin cannot lecture anyone on sacrifice.
The Kanu Card: Heartlessness Disguised as Solidarity
This is the most shameful part of the piece. The predicament of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, a son of this constituency, has been turned into a campaign tool. Using a constituent’s suffering for political gain is the height of heartlessness. Mazi Kanu and his family deserve dignity, not a place on someone’s campaign poster.
The incumbent’s camp must now answer what it has avoided for three years:
– Which bill did Hon. Aguocha sponsor at the Green Chamber to provide a referendum for those who wish to go their separate ways? Name it and give the bill number.
– Which motion did he move on Kanu’s behalf, and on what date?
– If this is solidarity and not theatre, why does it only appear in election season?
Real solidarity is sacrifice. A representative who loved his constituent that much would have shown extreme solidarity by rejecting every form of personal gain, so that Ndi Ikwuano/Umuahia could proudly say, “This is our son.” He did no such thing. He took everything on offer, and now he is using that same constituent’s ordeal to campaign.
Meanwhile, the people hear talk of houses in Abuja and abroad, and of fine cars. We make no accusation. We make a demand: publish your asset declaration, Honourable, and let the people judge.
A Constituency That Is Not Docile
Hon. Aguocha and his half-baked media team seem to believe that Ndi Ikwuano/Umuahia are docile and can be fooled by a distraction every time a question gets uncomfortable. They are mistaken. This constituency of traders, teachers, farmers and professionals knows the difference between representation and recitation. When a challenge is thrown at Rt. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji and collapses under the facts, the honourable thing for an Honourable Member is to concede and return to his record. Instead, the incumbent deflects to another topic. It has been his stock in trade for three years.
The Verdict
Almost four years is long enough for a representative’s good works to speak for him. If the works were there, no media team would be needed to shout on his behalf.
So the challenge stands. Match the stadiums. Match the 32 communities. Match the boreholes, the scholarships and the empowerment programmes. Name your bills and laws. Account for the billions. Declare your assets. Then let the people compare, with the facts and not the football tricks.
2027 will not be won by dribbling. It will be won by delivery.
