2027: The Locust Years Are Over, Chinedum Orji Promises Proactive, Pragmatic Legislative Season
The APC candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency, Rt Hon Chinedum Orji has attributed his emergence to the agitation of the people for a lawmaker with capacity, character, and the will-power to deliver good governance and socio-economic development to the Federal Constituency.
The former Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly lamented that poor representation cost the Federal Constituency of over ₦785 million in the 2024 appropriation years as there were no follow up on projects captured in the budget. He however stressed that in the same legislative season under review, lawmakers were attracting gigantic capital projects to their Constituencies and empowering the people
“My mission to Abuja is to restore trust, accelerate development, and ensure that governance tickles down from the Centre to the grassroots. My promise is to end the locust years of the 2023-2027 legislative season. A legislator does not only make laws, he must be skillful in negotiation and the will-power to ensure that what is earmarked is executed”
Orji surmised that having presided over a legislature that prioritized laws with direct impact — on education, health, youth employment, and local government autonomy, his mission is one of purpose, building bridges to ensure transmission of Federal presence to the States and LGAs
“Budgetary appropriations, and federal agencies do not manifest on mere pronouncements, pronouncements must be pursued and prodded to tangible economic realities, opportunities and socio-economic developments”, he stressed
Orji who has since rolled out his social contract with the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency maintained that he will become the Constituency’s strongest advocate for entrepreneurship, technical training, and digital inclusion to move youths from the margins to the center of the economy.
“Rural and urban roads, power, healthcare, and digital connectivity should not be reduced to mere campaign slogans. They are the daily infrastructure of dignity. My Abuja mission is to unlock federal resources and partnerships to fix what is broken and scale what works. I have the legislative experience and the will-power to push projects from flag-off to commissioning, and to insist on maintenance as part of my social contract with the people.
“My style is leadership that is honest about the challenges and tenacious in pursuing solutions”, he stressed
The APC candidate maintained that a vote for him will ensure a new dawn for the Federal Constituency and termination of the 2023-2027 legislative locust characterised by shadow boxing and lack of capacity to track appropriations, build bridges and clearly articulate Constituency challenges and needs
“My legislative season will be characterised by follow-through — from appropriations to execution to commissioning. The people and their challenge will form the focal thrust of my legislative endeavours”, Orji affirmed
