Umuekwule Erosion Disaster: A Blame To Obi Aguocha’s Legislative And Constituency Deliberate Negligence – By Paul Njoku
The recent ₦1.8 million donation by the House of Representatives member for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha, to tackle the erosion menace on Umuekwule Road has raised more questions than commendations. He has again demonstrated a usual double-standard feature of his personality traits and denial of legislative obligations.
While every intervention is ordinarily welcome, the timing and context of this donation suggest a clear case of pre-election eye-service by Aguocha who consistently claimed that the federal government does not give him constituency funds due to his support for Nnamdi Kanu’s advocacy for self-determination and his freedom from incarceration.
For the records, the erosion challenge on Umuekwule Road did not begin overnight. What started as a minor ecological threat degenerated into a full-blown disaster largely due to prolonged negligence and lack of his proactive legislative intervention. For months, residents and community leaders raised alarm, seeking urgent attention to avert the looming crisis. Those calls were deliberately and largely ignored by him.
It is therefore ironic that after years of silence and inaction that allowed the situation to deteriorate to its current deplorable state, a donation of ₦1.8 million is now being presented as a solution.
The people of Umuekwule deserve more than tokenism. They deserve consistent and responsive representation that address problems before they become disasters, not philanthropy that surfaces only when the election calendar draws near.
This sudden show of concern appears to be a calculated attempt to deceive and curry favour from a community that has suffered the consequences of neglect. We, the good people of Ikwuano/ Umuahia Federal Constituency heartily blame Obi Aguocha for this disaster due to his utter negligence. We will negatively reward him at the ballot in 2027 by voting him out.
The electorate is now more discerning and can distinguish between genuine service and seasonal generosity driven by political expediency. A vote against Aguocha and a vote in favour of Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji is the only solution for the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.
