FG Donates N25m Anti-Snake Venom To Benue
The Federal Government has donated 100 vials of anti-snake venom valued at N25 million to Benue State as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s response to snakebite cases and reduce the financial burden on affected residents.
The intervention is aimed at supporting medical facilities in the state with essential treatment for victims of snakebites, particularly as concerns over snakebite incidents continue to affect communities in parts of Benue.
The donation is expected to improve access to treatment for victims who may otherwise struggle to afford anti-snake venom, which can be expensive and difficult to obtain in some areas. The availability of the medication at health facilities could also help medical workers respond more quickly to emergencies.
Snakebite remains a public health concern in several rural communities where residents may come into contact with snakes while farming, travelling through bush paths or carrying out other daily activities. Delays in accessing appropriate treatment can increase the risk of serious complications.
The Federal Government’s latest intervention is therefore expected to strengthen the capacity of health authorities in Benue to manage snakebite emergencies and provide timely care to affected residents.
The 100 vials of anti-snake venom will provide additional medical supplies for the treatment of victims across designated health facilities in the state. Authorities are expected to ensure that the medication reaches communities and hospitals where the need is greatest.
The intervention also highlights the importance of continued investment in emergency healthcare, particularly in rural areas where access to specialised treatment can be limited.
For residents and healthcare providers in Benue, the donation is expected to ease some of the challenges associated with the treatment of snakebite victims and reduce the financial pressure on families seeking urgent medical care.
The Federal Government is expected to continue working with state health authorities and other relevant agencies to strengthen public health interventions and improve access to essential medicines for vulnerable communities.
