I’ve Heard Rumours Suggesting That There Are Moves To Interfere In The Osun State Election – Davido Tells Uzodinma

Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma not to allow the forthcoming Osun State governorship election to become a political battleground, urging him to support a peaceful and credible electoral process.

Davido made the appeal on Wednesday during a press conference in Osogbo, where he addressed security concerns and other issues surrounding the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

The singer, who declared his support for Governor Ademola Adeleke, described the Osun governor as one of the state’s finest leaders, citing his administration’s projects, integrity and commitment to governance as reasons for backing his re-election bid.

Speaking on behalf of the youth campaign mobilisation team, Davido said the group considered it necessary to reassure young voters and encourage them to participate peacefully in the election.

He urged residents to remain calm despite the heightened political atmosphere, expressing confidence that Governor Adeleke would secure another victory at the polls.

Davido also advised political supporters to reject violence, intimidation, provocation and the destruction of lives and property throughout the election period.

He encouraged eligible voters across the state to come out without fear and exercise their civic responsibility, stressing that every vote should count and that the choice of the electorate must be respected.

According to him, Osun has a reputation for peace, courage and resilience, and residents should preserve those values by conducting themselves responsibly before, during and after the election.

Addressing Uzodimma directly, Davido said he had heard reports suggesting attempts to influence the Osun governorship election or use the state to settle political interests. While acknowledging that he could not verify the claims, he appealed to the Imo governor to use his influence to promote peace and allow Osun people to decide their future freely through the ballot.

He noted that his appeal was made with sincerity, pointing to his personal ties with Imo State through his wife, Chioma.

Davido further appealed to politicians, their supporters and party structures to allow voters to participate freely and peacefully, insisting that any victory should come only through the legitimate choice of the electorate.

He maintained that democracy should be allowed to run its course, regardless of the eventual outcome, warning that no political ambition should endanger the lives or future of Osun residents.

He urged voters to reject intimidation, vote peacefully and ensure their voices were heard, while emphasising that the future of Osun should be built on peace rather than political conflict.

He said partly, “And to our daddy from Imo State, I say this with respect, sir.

“I’ve heard rumours suggesting that there are moves to interfere in the Osun State election or use the state as a political battleground to prove a point. I do not present these claims as facts, but I appeal to you, sir, to use your influence to promote peace and allow the people of Osun to choose their candidates freely.

“We have mutual connections, and I have a deep connection to Imo State. My wife, Chioma, is from the state, which makes this appeal more sincere.

“Please, let Osun remain peaceful. We say it again. Please, let Osun remain peaceful. One more time. Let Osun remain peaceful.

“Thank you. Let’s allow democracy to take its course and let the people decide.”
