Man Arrested After Allegedly Throwing Two Children From Storey Building In Abia
A man has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force after allegedly throwing his two children from a storey building in Umuobe, near Barracks Junction, along Opobo Road in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
The disturbing incident, which occurred on Thursday, caused panic among residents after the suspect was reportedly found lying unconscious but still breathing in front of his residence with a head injury.
Eyewitnesses told Magic FM Aba that the man allegedly threw his two children from the upper floor of the building before attempting to throw his wife from the same building. However, he reportedly fell from the storey building before carrying out the alleged attack on his wife.
The two children were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. Magic FM Aba later independently confirmed that both children survived the fall, although details of their condition were not immediately available.
The incident attracted a large crowd of concerned residents, who alerted security agencies and appealed for immediate intervention.
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force arrived at the scene at about 6:22 p.m. to assess the situation and secure the area. About 10 minutes later, at approximately 6:32 p.m., the suspect was taken into police custody after reportedly resisting arrest.
Police officers eventually subdued him and moved him away from the scene while restoring calm in the neighbourhood.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and authorities have commenced investigations to determine what led to the alleged attack on the children and the suspect’s subsequent fall from the building.
The police are expected to provide further details as investigations progress.
