Comrade Paul Njoku, a human rights activist, author and political strategist to Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, has again charged the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, to show his legislative record in office aside sharing sanitary pads and tissue-papers to female students and women in his home town at Ohuhu.

Njoku maintained that Aguocha is insincere to be re-elected, adding that the lawmaker should publish the beneficiaries of his purported scholarships in Ubakala clan if he is not insincere.

“Hon. Obi Aguocha has nothing to show to his constituents by his delusional representation hence giving fake scholarships all over his constituency especially at Ubakala in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State as exposed.

“Aguocha has obviously resolved publicizing fake and imaginary constituency projects having told us that federal government has not released funds to him to work for his constituents when his colleagues are tremendously working and representing their people in the House of Representatives with legislative empowerment and quality representation. He is insincere to be re-elected. I challenge him to publish the beneficiaries of his purported scholarships in Ubakala clan if he is not insincere.

“Aguocha should show us his record in office aside sharing sanitary pads and tissue-papers to women and female students in Ohuhu as his constituency project. I dare him to show video proof of those he purportedly gave scholarships in Ubakala same way he compelled, recorded on camera the female students and women in Ohuhu whom he gifted few pieces of sanitary pads and 3 packs of tissue papers.

“Obi Aguocha is not aware that in politics, continuity is not merely about retaining an unproductive seat at the House of Representatives but preserving development, protecting the gains of effective representation and ensuring that the people do not abandon a proven path.

“The repeated and constant calls for Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji to replace Obi Aguocha through the ballot goes beyond the argument of capacity, character and competence. It is about the scorecard of Chinedum Orji. It is the right of the people to choose the representative whose performance, influence, fidelity, accountability, accessibility and developmental footprint have earned their confidence unlike what Obi Aguocha represents.

“Chinedum Orji is not approaching 2027 as a political experiment. He is approaching it with an established record unlike Obi Aguocha. Orji would combine legislative responsibilities at the national level with constituency focused interventions”, Njoku wrote.

Recall that their are controversies surrounding alleged scholarship awards to indigenes of Ubakala in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State by Hon. Obi Aguocha. It has taken a fresh turn following a clarification from the immediate past president-general of the Ubakala clan Improvement Union Federated (UCIUF), Elder Friday Ogbuehi.

Ogbuehi reacted to a response reportedly issued by the current Secretary-General of UCIUF to Pharmacist Chidiebere Okorie, Presudent-General emeritus, concerning the alleged scholarships and the role of the union’s past administration.

In a strongly worded clarification, the former President-General said the administration he led was neither informed nor consulted about the alleged scholarship-awards during its tenure.

“For the record, the past administration led by me was not informed of such scholarships, nor were we consulted for the award of such scholarships,” Ogbuehi stated.

He further explained that such an initiative, if brought before his administration, would have involved the leadership of all the autonomous communities within Ubakala Clan.

“If such had happened, in our administration’s usual manner of leadership, the entire fifteen Autonomous Communities of Ubakala Clan would have been involved through their presidents,” he added.

The statement has now introduced a new dimension into the ongoing discussion over the alleged scholarship beneficiaries, the process through which the awards were said to have been facilitated, and the involvement—or otherwise—of the recognised leadership structures of Ubakala Clan.

Ogbuehi maintained that his intervention was necessary because the administration he led had been mentioned in the discussion.

“I thought it necessary to clarify this issue where our administration has been mentioned,” he said.

The former President- General, however, concluded his intervention on a conciliatory note, saying:

“Nma nma nu. Jisie nu ike.”

The clarification by Ogbuehi is likely to generate further discussion among stakeholders as questions continue to be raised about the alleged scholarships and the extent to which the relevant leadership structures were involved.
