Rivers Police Dismiss Four Officers Over Fatal Shooting of UNIPORT Graduate.
The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed four police officers found culpable in the fatal shooting of Anthony A. Obodo, a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt, during a police pursuit in Port Harcourt.
The incident occurred on August 27, 2026, when officers attached to the Agip Police Division attempted to stop a tinted Lexus vehicle which allegedly sped away, prompting a pursuit.
During the chase, Corporal Alfred Louis reportedly opened fire, hitting Obodo. The victim was subsequently rushed to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The four officers dismissed by the command are ASP Fabian Kpeanabari, Inspector Solomon Nworgu, Corporal Alfred Louis and Police Constable Michael Ejokwu.
According to the police, the officers were subjected to orderly room proceedings and found culpable of the offences. The command said they would also face criminal prosecution in court.
Inspector Nworgu reportedly absconded following the incident, while the police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend him and bring him to justice.
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, said the command would not protect officers who abuse their powers or act outside the law.
Adepoju stressed that “no police officer is above the law,” adding that the command remained committed to accountability, professionalism and respect for the rights of citizens.
